Pottermore

Being a Potter fan (okay, fanatic--I have the cloak pictures to prove it), I was more than excited about the Pottermore mystery. Once it was finally revealed, I was intrigued by the idea, but, mostly, I came away with mixed feelings. Although I'm overjoyed at the prospect of finding out more details about the Harry Potter universe, I really don't know how I'm going to feel about the gaming aspect of it, and I won't truly know until they reveal more details. Though I have my reservations, I, of course, submitted my e-mail on the Pottermore website. (Again, fanatic.)

Right now, what I'm most thrilled about is the video below. Not so much for the Pottermore news, but for the amazing book art animation. For those who haven't seen it, I highly recommend you watch--Potter fan or not.

Thing 2: Investigate Some Other Blogs

Man, my mind is exploding at the number of blogs there are to look at. I've gone back and forth from the Delicious page way too many times and for way longer than I would like to admit. In fact, during the first time I started looking around, I finally stopped and took a break when I tried to go back to the page and it told me the link was broken. I interpret that as my computers way of telling me, "You are crazy and need to stop." As massive as the list is, I'm super pumped that so many people are participating! And more and more keep joining! For now, I'm going to pause on the investigating front and post about my findings.

First, I'll admit, my investigating was rather disorganized. I wanted to find people that also worked in public libraries, but, at the same time, I didn't want to limit my options. So, I did narrow the search down to public libraries. However, in the end, I just organized alphabetically and chose randomly. Of course, the blog title had a lot to do with the appeal, but, again, with the not wanting to limit things, I didn't let the titles limit my selection. While looking at the blogs, some participants had already posted about Thing 2, and it was neat to see what other blogs piqued their interest. With the number of blogs out there, I'm beginning to think my blog is going to get lost in the shuffle. However, I'm going to be optimistic and say someone will find this thing and read it.

Now, for a few of my findings:

I was pleased to find some cpd23 newbies like myself such as Books Make the World a Happier Place. Not only a first timer like me but a circ. worker too. It'll be interesting to read about her experiences both with cpd23 and, if she chooses to write about it, with her work.

Fiction&Fotos immediately grabbed my attention because of the word fotos. I, too, enjoy photography and look forward to her posts.

folderol and geegaw is not only a great blog title, but I believe it will also be a handy blog to read because this is her second time doing 23 Things. I'm also eager to read any posts she may write about her experiences with graduate school.

I encourage everyone to read the Thing 1 post at Organising Chaos. Though I've been excited about cpd23 since I first read about it, I would be completely lying if I said I wasn't nervous. Her post put me at ease and made all the little butterflies gnawing at my stomach disappear.

That's just a small sampling of the many blogs I viewed. Without a doubt, there is a great variety of blogs to choose from, and my investigating has only begun. I'm sure I'll continue having a look around throughout this entire experience. I mean, come on, it was hard enough to stop myself in the few days I've been looking.

Hope everyone is enjoying the experience as much as I am. Happy blogging!

Zorgamazoo by Robert Paul Weston

I had the delight of coming across Zorgamazoo while testing out devices with the ebook service our library recently began to offer. At first, I hesitated checking it out and told myself I would find something else. However, whenever I would go to the recommended ebooks page, it was always at the top of the list. I finally gave in and was swept away with the first two questions in the description section for the book: "Are You a Believer in Fanciful Things? In Pirates and Dragons and Creatures and Kings?" Of course! Who isn't? With that, I had to read the book.

Upon starting the book, I immediately found myself reading aloud because it was so much fun. Mind you, I wasn't reading aloud to anyone. Just myself. And, occasionally, my cat. Though, he seemed rather annoyed with it than appreciative.

Reading the verse was such a pleasure, and it brought me back to my childhood. Particularly, to torturing my mother by having her repeatedly read Dr. Seuss. Favorites: Green Eggs and Ham and Fox in Socks. The latter being pretty brutal with its tongue twisters. Zorgamazoo had the silliness of Dr. Seuss with the macabre of Edward Gorey. Both two of my faves, so combining them was perfect for me. A light read, to be sure, but it's definitely worth a look.

I enjoyed reading Zorgamazoo,
give it a try and you may too!

Thing 1: Blogs and Blogging

I'm very excited about the CPD23 journey I'm beginning today! I have my friend Lauren to thank for sharing a link to CPD23 on Facebook. Without her, I don't know if I would have had the chance to partake in this blogging adventure.

In my 23 Things experience, I'm excited to learn about programs that I've heard of but haven't used (Pushnote, Evernote, RSS Feeds) as well as programs that I've never heard of before (Zotero, Prezi, Jing). Of course, I want to discover things that I can use myself, but ultimately, I hope my knowledge assists me in helping patrons without staring at them as if they have multiple heads. Aside from the different online programs we will be covering, I'm eager about Week 7: Librarianship Training Options because I do not have my Masters but hope to in the future. Week 11: Getting Involved intrigues me because I would like to just that. Lastly, Week 14: Careers and Week 15: Promoting Yourself in Job Applications and At Interview will be coinciding with my moving and looking for a new job. Well, I could potentially have a new job by then (fingers crossed), but if not, I could use all the help I can get.

Though I'm starting this blog to assist in my job and further my library education, as I said above, I will be moving in the middle of the 23 Things. In my dream of dreams, I'm hoping to jump from one library job to the next, which is what I fortunately had happen when I moved before. However, if it does not happen, which sadly could be the case, I plan to continue working with libraries in whatever way I can whether it be through volunteering or becoming a Friend of the library.

I'm starting this blog because of CPD23, but I'm going to try to use it for more than the 23 Things. I plan to blog about a multitude of things such as what I'm reading, my travels, library happenings, and life happenings. Several years ago, I had a blog that I'm quite happy I deleted. It didn't add much to either my life or the Internet. However, with this experience, I hope to remedy my first failed blogging foray.

Happy blogging to all!
